Karen Louise Vitale
November 5, 1955 – November 24, 2019
Karen Louise (Shottes) Vitale, 64, passed in peace, surrounded with the love of her family on November 24th, 2019. Karen lived on this earth for 23, 395 days or just slightly over two billion seconds. What an impact those too few days/ seconds had on us. Sunday morning, just before sunrise, Karen went to be with the Lord (her boyfriend, as she fondly called her Love, Jesus).
Karen Vitale was born on November 5, 1955 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, daughter of Jeanne Eleanor Towne Shottes and Francis Richard Shottes. Karen grew up in our boisterious family of nine kids. I am sure there will be many stories shared over the following days of those special times.
Karen loved life. She lived every day thankful and ready to be there. She had a magnetic draw to water and nature, especially animals. In the last few years, Karen and sister, Susan, went across the road and down to Lake Hebron to start their day. When they could, they included an evening salute. It became their special ritual. At times others joined. Each day Karen would sing out loud her praises to have this day to discover and share. As a child, Karen would often be found, knee-deep in the lily-pad water catching frogs. Once she caught a blue-hued frog. When Mom saw it, she said it was enchanted and had to put him back quickly. Mom didn’t know that Karen thought every frog was enchanted. Growing up on Big Island Pond was such a point of joy. Swimming, exploring, boating, water skiing, water tubing, and blueberry picking filled her summer days. Karen was our family funny-bone. When she and Mom got together in the grocery store it could often become a different kind of adventure, to say the least. The loss of her humor leaves a big void in not only our family, but in every person who had the pleasure to meet her.
Karen was so kind and generous. Whatever she had she gave away if she thought someone else needed it. She found good in every living creature. The flowers that grew around her reflected Karen’s inner beauty.
Karen loved her family deeply and enjoyed the special times shared with each of her children and grandchildren.
Karen Vitale was pre-deceased by her Mother and Father, and three sisters, Linda, Brenda, and Cynthia.
