ALTON—Kenneth W. Willey, Sr., 86, beloved husband of 60 years to Bettina (Sadler) Willey, father, papa, and great papa, left this world for a better one September 12, 2018. He was born November 4, 1931 to Leon and Bernice (Hammond) Willey.
He proudly served his country in the US Army during Korea having served as a Staff Sergeant. He was employed at Old Town Canoe, Penobscot Shoe, and H.E. Sargent, and then built and ran Willey’s Grocery for ten years. His greatest treasure in life was his family and he loved his camp at Schoodic Lake, especially when the kids were there. He was a member of the Charleston Pentecostal Church and loved his church family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife Bettina, three sons David and Amanda, Russell and Lisa of Alton, and Kenneth Jr and Melissa of Orrington; three daughters Deborah and Wayne Meserve of Charleston, Jane and Patrick Peters of LaGrance, Janice and John Hatch of Alton; 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; two sisters Helen Cobb and Melva Lagasse; sisters-in-law Avis Oliver, Harriet and Edward Jefferson, Brenda Willey, Bonnie Sadler, and Barbara Humphrey. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers Ivanhoe and Stanley, and three sisters Grace, June and Hazel.
His nurse Cyndi, from hospice of Eastern Maine, was an angel to her and he loved her.
A graveside service with military honors will be conducted 10am Saturday September 15, 2018 at the Alton Cemetery. A celebration of life reception will follow at the Alton United Methodist Church fellowship hall.
