Margaret “Peggy A. Grant

OLD TOWN--Margaret “Peggy” Grant died peacefully at EMMC on Saturday, June 23, after living with multiple myeloma for 10 years. Peggy was born in Old Town, the daughter of Anthony and Margaret (White) Grant. She graduated from Old Town High Class of ‘64, and for 37 years was the Executive Assistant to Dana Devoe, long-time Bangor Attorney. She retired after 10 years with the State of Maine/Workers Compensation. Peggy was a friend to many, and although faced with family tragedy as well as her diagnosis, she chose to move forward with her life. Her immense faith and fierce determination only made her stronger.....she had cancer - it didn’t have her. Her decision to bear this burden quietly was her own. Her bucket list included travel: she made three trips to Cabo, Mexico, once with Prudy; a girls week in Cape Cod, the first time back since 1968; she loved the annual trips to OOB with her work friends, and travelled several times to Oregon to visit her BFF. She loved the outdoors and often spent time with friends at their camps. She was wild about the Pats but she adored Tom Brady - just ask her cat, Ms Brady. Watched the Red Sox cream the Yankees at Fenway, saw a Lady Gaga concert there with 7 besties; was active in the Red Hats, the Daughters of Isabella and other church activities, and enjoyed going to music concerts, plays; reading, crosswords, her flowers....and eating out! She had a knack for collecting friends wherever she went. Peggy is survived by her nephews Kurt Kennedy of Waterboro, Todd Kennedy of Old Town, four grand nephews Andrew Kennedy and wife Raven of New Hampshire, and Derrick, Dustin and Dalton Kennedy of Waterboro, and cousin Richard and wife Betty White of Delaware. Predeceased by sister Prudy Kennedy and brother-in-law Harold Kennedy, brother Richard Grant, two nephews Eric Gray-Kennedy and Scott Kennedy, and parents Anthony and Margaret (White) Grant. Family and friends are so thankful for the exceptional care Peggy received from her oncologist Astrid Andreescu and the caring staff at Lafayette Cancer Center in Brewer. And Peggy’s “posse” of friends who were devoted to making her last weeks special. Heartfelt thanks to Barbara Ouellette who partnered with Peggy to traverse the complex medical treatment that would become a critical part of her well-being. Rest In Peace, dear Peggy. We are blessed to have had you in our midst. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:00nam on June 30 at Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, Old Town followed by a light luncheon and continued fellowship in the Parish Center. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Old Town Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society or the Old Town Orono Animal Orphanage PO Box 565 Orono,ME 04473

This lady will be missed by me and my Red Hat ladies. I have known Peggy since the early 1950's as her sister Prudy was my bff. I spent a lot of time together as she followed us around. Part of the past was gone when I lost her sister but now only the precious memories remain. Love you Peggy.
