MILFORD--Maurice Albert Martin Sr. lost his battle with cancer on June 27, 2018. It was his Mother’s birthday. He was surrounded by his loving family and some dear friends.
Maurice was born Jan. 15, 1936 in Old Town Maine, the son of Alphonse and Mary (Cote) Martin.
After graduating from Old Town High School in 1954, Maurice went on the military from1954 to 1958. He was in Army Airborne Division. After his service he became a Cosmetologist and Instructor of Cosmetology. He owned and operated his own Cosmetology School Continental School of Beauty from 1966 to 1974 when he merged with Mansfield Beauty Academy. Maurice continued to teach Cosmetology for many years until 1994. He owned Continental Coiffures salons in Bangor, Ellsworth, and Old Town and Cosmos Crafters Salon that spanned over the course of 55 years. He was a member National and State of Maine Cosmetology Board. He also began a second career as a Carpenter that spanned over 15 years along with the hair business until 2015. Maurice loved wood working, golfing, especially with his son for many years. He was a caring and loving father, Grandfather and husband. He was well known and loved my many. In Mo’s last few weeks he was surrounded by loving family and lifelong friends who helped care for him and spend many special moments. The souls of many deceased were in our home for the last few weeks of his life watching over him and talking with him in preparation for his next journey. So much love was present. Special thanks to Mo’s adopted daughter Jean Rustin, Peter and Chris Norris, and many other friends who were on hand caring for Mo and me throughout this and many other times. Maurice was an honorable man and loved by so many.
He is survived by his loving wife Amber (Spinney) Martin of 31 years, Son Maurice (Bud) Martin Jr. and wife Sandy of Bangor, His son D Gallant Richard and wife Amanda Richard of Old Town, Daughter, Tiffani Baldacci and her husband Jeff Hanscom of Florida, 2 step children Michael Williams and Kelly Williams of Portland. His Grandchildren, Ashley Martin and her husband Kevin Rennick, Emma Coffey, Kelsey Gallant and her fiance’ Nina Yeliseyev and Molly Tyler. Great grandchildren Conner Martin, Carter McEwen, Killian Rennick and Grace Tyler. Sisters, Lorraine and husband Arthur Preble of Old Town, Irene and husband Paul Martin of Old Town, Jeanette and husband Bill Webb of Bangor, Juliette Grant of Old Town, Pauline Blair of Bangor, Dorothy and Howard Folster of Enfield, Gail Johnson of Bangor. A brother Richard and wife Carrie Martin of Ellsworth, sister in law Cathy Heywood Martin of Portland, mother in law Sallie Whitney and brother in law Jon Spinney of Ellsworth, many cousins, nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother and sister in law Gerald and Evelyn Martin, his brother Wilfred Martin, his brother in laws Bob Blair and Larry Grant. In laws Larry and Mary Spinney, Mark and Arthur Whitney.
Friends may call July 6, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated July 7, 2018 at 11am , Parish of Resurrection, Holy Family Church in Old Town. Immediately following the mass, all are invited to the Parish Hall for a luncheon and continued fellowship. Interment will be at Milford Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Old Town Animal Orphanage in memory of Missy at PO Box 565, Orono, Me. 04473.
