Milford – Michael A. Blais, 65, husband of Vickilee (Hesseltine) Blais died peacefully at this home with his family by his side on August 12, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Bangor, May 14, 1957, son of Hector L and Mary D. (Elliott) Blais.
Mike worked as a paper maker at the Brewer and Old Town Mills for 20+ years, then went to work for Thornton Construction Company at the screen plant until he became ill. Mike also worked alongside his son Michael to help him with his business. Mike was one of the hardest workers, always worked until the job was done and would push others along if they weren’t pulling their weight. He was very straight forward and honest and told it like it was.
Mike enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors. He loved camping, fishing and hunting with his wife and family. He was always very secretive about his fishing spots and about how he set-up his fishing gear. He seemed to catch a lot of fish and family members were always trying to see what he was using for tackle, which always made him chuckle. Mike spent most of his time at Schoodic Lake hanging with family and friends. Schoodic Lake was the place that gave him the most peace. He loved spending time with his granddaughters at the lake, showing them how to fish, taking them 4-wheeling or a ride on the snowmobile and teaching them how to play cribbage. Mike loved being part of the Hesseltine family because they treated him more like a brother then an in-law.
In addition to his wife Vickilee, Mike is survived by his son Michael Blais and spouse Nicole, grand-daughters Bella Blais and Ava Blais, step-grandsons, Evan & Brady Andrews. A son from a previous marriage Derek Coleman and spouse Valarie and son DJ. In addition to his surviving children, a brother J. Peter Blais and spouse Liz from Michigan, brother John Harding of Greenfield, two sisters Mary Henderson of Brewer and Jane Delong of Brewer; several nieces and nephews and special friends that were more like family; Sivy and Anita Petrello of NH, John Costigan of Milford and Adam Nason of MA (he still doesn’t like you calling him a silver-fox).
In addition to his parents, Mike is predeceased by a sister, Shirley Mitchell, and two brothers Robert Blais and Bill Blais.
Graveside service will be held at the Milford Cemetery on Saturday August 20, 2022 at 12:00. Following the graveside service, there will be a celebration of life at the Old Town Elks Club 37th Fourth Street. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org
