OLD TOWN- Pauline B. Mitchell, 55, of Indian Island and The Penobscot Nation passed away on August 25, 2014 at Eastern Maine Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born on December 2, 1958 the Daughter of the Late Charlie and Nora (Russell) Benally of The Navajo Nation in Leupp, AZ. Pauline was employed at The University of Maine at Orono for 22 years as the Assistant Librarian of the University Library. Pauline loved to sew and made many items for her seven grandchildren, many quilts and beautiful Native American jewelry. Pauline’s true loves were her three daughters, her husband , her grandchildren to whom she was known as, “MIMI” and her entire family. Pauline was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Pauline is survived by her husband, Burnell Mitchell of Indian Island to whom she was a devoted wife and happily married for 36 wonderful years. Three daughters, Marissa Mitchell of Indian Island, Na’ya Mitchell and Fiancé Saul Love of Indian Island, Esther (Mitchell) Sappier and husband Erik Sappier of Indian Island. Seven grandchildren, Jayden, Devon, Caitlyn, Nora, Aven, Benally and Benasoh and one grandchild on the way. She was also survived by her brothers and sisters, Jeanette Garcia of Colorado, Max Benally of Dilkon AZ, Allison Benally of Leupp, AZ and Lorraine Benally of Leupp,AZ along with many nieces and nephews. Pauline was pre-deceased by her parents, Charlie and Nora (Russell) Benally of Leupp,AZ. Brothers and sisters, Lisa Hensen, Johnny Benally, Alice Singer, Bennie Benally, Tommy Benally, and Thomas Benally. Arrangement have been made through Birmingham Funeral Home for a celebration of life with Visitation Services on Thursday August 28 2014 from 6pm-8pm at Birmingham Funeral Home, Old Town, ME with a Funeral Service to follow on August 29, 2014 at 11am at Birmingham Funeral Home.
