LEVANT - Peter M. Buchanan passed on peacefully March 17, 2014 at Brewer Center for Health & Rehabilitation following a brief battle with cancer. He was born November 13, 1948 in Old Town, the son of Charles E. and Virginia (Brown) Buchanan.

He was a graduate of Old Town High School, the class of 1967. He served 4 years in the US Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany, stationed in Japan and San Francisco. After serving his country, Peter graduated from the University of Maine with an Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering. He was later employed as a surveyor for Prentiss & Carlisle, and for eleven years he was Director of Roads & Mapping, as well as Civil Defense Director for Penobscot County. Peter loved all sports. He pitched a no hitter in High School and played in a softball travelling league. Peter enjoyed golfing with his wife Peg and many dear friends at Hermon Meadow Golf Course for 32 years. Peter was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Peter and Peg hosted many Super Bowl parties at their home with neighborhood friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Virginia Buchanan.

He is survived by his wife and best friend Margaret (Peg) (Dalton) Buchanan of 39 ½ years; his loving daughter Patricia “Patti” Howard and her husband Jerry of Katy, TX; and a special grandson Daniel Peter Howard. Peter and Patti had a father/daughter bond which was unmatched. Peter and Peg enjoyed many trips to Texas to visit Patti, Jerry, and Danny where wonderful memories were made. Peter will be sorely missed he was a father, grampy and I couldn't have asked for a more supportive father in law. Your positive influence was second to none which drove me to new heights in my life. I will have emptiness in my heart and miss you dearly. I'll never forget your vacations to Texas, the zoo, beaches, NASA Space Center Houston, San Antonio's “Alamo” and much more. Pictures not only say a thousand words but will give us thousands of memories. It is my honor to call you family.
Love and miss you

Peg, I am so sorry to hear of Peter's passing. He was always a joy to be with at Hermon Meadows, whether on the course or in the clubhouse. He will be sorely missed there by many of his golfing friends for sure. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to see him one last time in Brewer, and to see the love and support he was receiving from his family at the end. I'm sure it was very comforting to him throughout his suffering. It is nice that you have all of those wonderful memories from your many years together, golfing and otherwise. All the best to you at this time.
