Old Town - Robert L. Marquis, loving husband to Jeanne and devoted father of nine children departed this world on September 15, 2023 at the age of 84. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Bob was born on August 17, 1939 in the close-knit town of Old Town, Maine, to parents Alice (Chamberlain) Marquis and Henry Marquis. He spent his formative years here, graduating with distinction from Old Town High School in 1957. This was just the beginning of a life filled with achievement and dedication.
Following his high school graduation, Bob began his journey in public service as a police officer in Old Town, ensuring the safety and well-being of his community. Later, he honed his skills as a skilled welder with the UA Local 321 Plumbers and Pipefitters, earning a reputation for precision and craftsmanship.
One of Bob's most significant accomplishments was the establishment of Marquis Heating in 1993, a family-owned and operated business that gave him great joy. Through Marquis Heating, he provided warmth to countless homes, but more importantly, he created a legacy of hard work and commitment that will endure for generations.
Bob was a family man at heart. He shared an enduring love with his wife of 65 years, Jeanne (Taylor), which served as an inspiration to all who knew him. Bob is survived by Jeanne and their nine children, Gregory and his wife Katie of Old Town, Robert and his wife Minnie of Old Town, Joseph and his wife Karen of Winn, Karen Cliff and her husband Daniel of Hermon, Roger and his wife Regina of Old Town, Brenda McDonald and her husband Bill of Old Town, Timothy and his wife Jessica of Orono, Stephen and his wife Erika of Kennebunk and Donald and his wife Amanda of Old Town. Bob had a special bond with brother in-law Stephen Taylor throughout his life. He found immense joy in watching his children grow, succeed, and create their own families. Bob’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts and lives of his family that includes 20 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Bob also leaves behind many close brother and sister in-laws.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved mother, Alice Chamberlain Marquis, his father, Henry Marquis, his brother, William Marquis, and granddaughter Jessie Snyder. Their memory will forever remain in our hearts, and we take comfort in knowing that Bob is now reunited with his loved ones.
Bob had a zest for life and a wide range of interests and hobbies that brought him immense joy. He had a love for flying and owned various Cessna aircraft over the years, taking to the skies to explore the world from a unique perspective. These flights are cherished memories for his children and grandchildren. Additionally, he was a passionate enthusiast of antique car restorations, meticulously preserving the beauty and history of classic Ford automobiles. Bob was an active musician, performing in many bands over the years as a drummer and guitarist. He passed on this love of music to several of his grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Bob was an active member of the community, lifelong parishioners of the Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, St. Joseph’s Parish, in Old Town. He was also known for his volunteerism efforts with numerous organizations, including the Knights of Columbus and the Alzheimer's Association of Maine and Boy Scouts of America. His dedication to these causes showcased his compassionate nature and his desire to create a better world for those in need.
Bob was an American through and through. He was a member of the Maine Army National Guard for many years. His service to his country was a point of pride that he passed on to his children and grandchildren with several joining him in service to our country. His love of nation extended beyond the armed forces in the manner in which he would only buy American made products and automobiles.
Bob's kindness, generosity, and dedication to those he loved and the causes he believed in will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
