

She was one of six daughters and attended Hudson elementary school and graduated from Old Town High School, Class of 1952. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction from the College of Education from the University of Maine Orono, 1979 and a Master of Education, with a specific concentration in Christian Counseling and Psychotherapy.
She was city treasurer and deputy City Clerk for the City of Old Town. She worked in the College of Education for 14 years as office supervisor and as assistant to the Assistant Dean. She then transferred to the University of Maine Systems, Bangor, where she was assistant to the Associate Vice Chancellor and part of the Chancellor staff for 18 years. In Bangor, her field of expertise was in risk management in insurance, where she served over 7 campuses for their insurance needs, retiring in 1997. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi in the College of Education and held a certified teaching degree.
Shirley was a life long member of Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, Old Town, where she sang in the church choir most of her life., and served on the Parish Council and Eucharistic Minister.
She met her husband Leo, when he returned from serving in the US Army in Korea. They were married June 1, 1953, raising four children and two great grandchildren Shawn and Shane Graham. Upon retirement, the had a home in Valrico, FL where the spent 11 happy winters until Leo’s death in Feb 2009. While in Florida, she sang with 110 members in Nativity Catholic in Brandon, FL and served as a Eucharistic minister. Her summer were spent at Schoodic Lake, where Leo had built a summer cottage.
Shirley was an active member of the Cursillo Movement and spent a four day weekend at St. Paul’s Center Augusta where she was a team member and weekend coordinator. She was also a member of the Daughter’s of Isabella.
She was predeceased by her husband Leo, parents Annie and Joseph King, sisters Jeanette Robichaud, Florence Littlefield, Teresa Linscott, Lorraine Hachey, Donna Spencer, and son in law Thomas Paradis. Shirley is now living her fifth day with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, Rest in Peace!
She lives her four children, Mark Raymond and his wife Glenda of New Sharon, Karen Paradis of Lincoln, Paula “P.J.” Hill and husband Charles of Apollo Beach, FL. Lisa Raymond of Milford; brother-in-law Stanley Spencer of Chiloquin, OR; 7 grandchildren, Shawn Graham, Shane Graham, Lindsay Jones, Sarah Raymond, Joseph Raymond, Isaac Raymond, and Charles “Chaz” Hill II; 11 great-grandchildren, Hannah Winters, Jacquelyn Compton, Ryan Graham, Cameron Graham, Dillon Graham, Gage Jones, Kaleb Jones, Ember Jones, Vaughn Raymond, Tracey Raymond, three great great grandchildren Avonlea and Simon Leo Winters, and Thomas Leo Raymond; many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 2-6PM Sunday at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Monday March 9, 2020 at Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church. Immediately following the funeral mass, all are invited to the Parish Hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
