

MILFORD - Shirley "Jake" P. Treadwell, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family January 12, 2016. Jake was born in Milford, ME, the son of Edwin and Lyndal (Smith) Treadwell. Jake left school at a young age and started working. Once he was old enough, He joined the Army and served his country proudly in World War II and in the Korean War. He also later served in the Air National Guard. He worked in Old Town all his life at various jobs including the Pie-Plate Factory, the shoe shop, and eventually retiring from James River as a Boiler Operator. He was a life member at the VFW, American Legion, The Elks Club, and The Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending his summers on the Island, with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. He also enjoyed cooking; especially making his rabbit stew every winter for their annual ice-fishing gathering. Jake is survived by his two sons, Eric Treadwell Sr. and his wife Patricia of Falmouth, Stephen Treadwell and his wife Patricia of Madison; three grandchildren, Eric Treadwell Jr. and his wife Erica Richards, Suzette Harford and her husband Ron of Belmont, Melissa (Treadwell) Theriaque and her husband Jeremy of New Sharon; six great grandchildren, Myles and Eleanore Treadwell of Falmouth, Bobby Belanger of Portland, Devan Belanger of Belmont, Setha Treadwell of Portland, Nevaeh Rush of New Sharon; a sister, Geneva Eastman of LaGrange, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jake was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Blanche ; three brothers, Clarence, Waldo, and Derwood Treadwell; seven sisters, Imogene Schaffer, Angie Trott, Winona Hesseltine, Myrtle Sherman, Joyce Buxton, Glennis Treadwell, and Ida Whiting.
