Orono Thomas A. Haley, 82, husband of Pauline R. Haley, passed away, September 23, 2018, at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born in Old Town, September 10, 1936, the son of George and Bernadette (Godin) Haley.
Thomas was a 1954 graduate of Old Town High School. He joined the Navy out of high school, serving four years, and then transferred to the Air Force, where he served 21 years. After leaving the military, Thomas settled down in Orono, where he began a second career working for the U.S. Postal Office. He earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in history at the University of Maine, Orono.
Thomas was a true Irishman, showing due faith in his Boston teams, including the Red Sox, Celtics, and the Patriots. He was a private man who enjoyed stamp collecting, chess and studying history.
Thomas was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Gloria C. Haley. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Pauline R. Haley and her family; three sons, Maj. James A. Haley (Army Nurse Corps, Walter Reed National Medical Center, Bethesda, MD) and his wife, Donna M. Haley of Boyds, MD, Mark T. Haley of Gardiner, and Stephen E. Haley of Milford; daughter, Theresa A. Kangas and her fiancé, Barry McCluskey, of Belfast; three grandchildren, Anne E. Haley, Alexander B. Haley, and Anthony N. Haley; as well as two great-grandchildren; and his dear sister, Anne LePage.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Catholic Church, Old Town, with Rev. Wilfred Labbe officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Old Town. All are invited to share in a light luncheon in the Parish Hall, following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Maine Veterans Home, Attention Activities Fund, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401.
