William Thomas Prue “Billy” “Tom” ORONO—William Tom Billy Prue, 88, died February 9, 2020 in Orono. He was born November 30, 1931 in Orono, the son of the late Fred and Claudia (Brasslett) Prue. Billy, as he was known to family, and Tom to his friends, graduated from Orono High School. He served two years in the US Navy and was proud to be a veteran. He was employed as a postal carrier serving Orono, and retired after 30 years of loyal and dedicated service. Billy was an avid hunter and fisherman. April 1991, he caught the first Atlantic Salmon of the year from the Penobscot River and was flown to Washington, DC, to present the fish to President George Bush. Billy enjoyed many salmon fishing trips to Alaska, catching many fish and creating lifelong memories with his friends. He enjoyed traveling and visited Hawaii, Switzerland, Australia, to name just a few places. Billy was an avid outdoorsman. He was lucky enough to be chosen for two Maine moose hunts, enjoyed annual family partridge hunting and always looked forward to deer hunting in the fall and the many trips to the Allagash. He truly loved the North Maine Woods, enjoyed Katahdin Iron Works and Jo Mary region, and the many dirt road rides to see wildlife and nature in all its beauty. He enjoyed going to Frenchboro Island every summer for the festival celebration and going to country fairs in the fall. He was a member of the Salmon Club and enjoyed attending meetings and dinners and the comraderie with like fellows. He enjoyed Parker House Dining and many church dinners where he was able to socialize with his friends. Billy was also an avid gardener and had a huge orchard with apple, peach, and plum trees. He enjoyed picking the fruit and sharing with his family and friends. In his younger years, he like to water ski, Ice skating, snowmobiling, and many other outdoor activities. He enjoyed Sunday visits with cousins Jeannine and Juliette and enjoyed spending Thanksgiving’s with Jeannine and her family and enjoyed holiday and family gatherings in Bradford with the Speed and Pullen families. He truly enjoyed giving gifts to the speed and Pullen families and was known as Santa Claus on the gifts. He was a devoted catholic and faithfully attended church in Orono and Old Town for the Saturday evening Mass. He enjoyed attending Maine Maple Sunday each year at the Pullen’s Sugar Shack in Bradford. Billy enjoyed watching the evening news, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Me TV programming of Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith and Columbo and football, especially the New England Patriots. Billy and his direct to the point personality, was not afraid to let you know what he was thinking. He lived a good life, doing what he loved. He will be missed by many. He is survived by two brothers Francis Prue of Pushaw Lake, Glenburn and Richard Proulx of Hampden; two nieces and many cousins. A sincere thank you to Kindred Hospice for the wonderful and compassionate care given to him, especially Auburn, Shelly, and Lindsay. A funeral service will be conducted 1PM Friday February 14, 2020 where friends may call from 12 noon until time of service at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town. Spring burial, with military honors, will be conducted at Riverside Cemetery, Orono. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
