Alice Laverne Miller

Alice Laverne Miller, age 98, of Memphis, TN, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 20, 1926, in Widener, Arkansas, to the late Bertha Mae Parnell and David H. Parnell.

Alice lived a long and fulfilling life devoted to faith, family, and hard work. She was a faithful member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Olive Branch, where she found strength, fellowship, and joy throughout her life.

Alice worked in retail for many years, where she was known for her kind heart, strong work ethic, and warm smile. Beyond her professional life, Alice was a woman of great creativity and passion. She loved to sew, draw, paint, and engage in many other crafts. She enjoyed reading and treasured quiet moments spent with a good book.

A spirited and competitive woman, Alice especially enjoyed playing games with her family and took great delight in winning. She loved to sing and to cook, filling her home with music, laughter, and the comforting aroma of her favorite dishes. She also cherished watching sports with her son-in-law, Terry, sharing many lively conversations and moments of joy.

Above all, Alice loved her family deeply. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she found her greatest happiness in their company. Her legacy of love, strength, and faith will forever live on in their hearts.

Alice is survived by her four beloved children: Susan Wells (Terry), Thomas Childers, Cynthia Braun, and Sandra Bryson; and by her brother, Gilbert Parnell. sixteen grandchildren:

Teresa Johnson, Tammy Oliver, Stacy Brooks, Paul Childers, Sean Childers, Jason Childers, Jessica Bontrager, Hunter Childers, Jacob Childers, Savannah Childers, Bonnie Childers, Kera Baker, Kyle Braun, Meagan Bryson, Alex Mallery, and Abigale Mallery. Additionally, she is survived by twenty-five great-grandchildren: Zachary Jordan, Jonah Jordan, Sarah Johnson, Lily Rose Oliver, Luke Oliver, Sawyer Oliver, Jacob Brooks, Grace Brooks, Carter Childers, Penelope Childers, Everette Childers, Sasha Brewer, Billie Bontrager, Felix Bontrager, Codi Spake, Michael Baker, Katelyn Owens, Karly Baker, Chanlor Braun, Ella Braun, Falynn Braun, Lathan Riales, Emersynn Erickson, Averie Allen, and Freyja Mallery.

The family also eagerly anticipates the arrival of her first great-great-grandchild, Ava Katherine Jordan, expected to make her debut this November.

Alice was preceded in death by two children, George W. Childers and Wesley C. Childers; two sons-in-law, Michael Braun and James Mallery; two great-grandchildren, Vivianne Belle Brewer and Evelynn Rae Brewer; her mother, Bertha Mae Parnell; her father, David H. Parnell; her siblings, DH Parnell (Carolyn) and Anita Cornell (Herbert); and her sister-in-law, Barbara Parnell.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 21, 2025 from 12pm until 1pm with a celebration of life service to follow at 1pm, all at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Southwoods at a later date.

Alice Laverne Miller will be remembered for her deep love for family. Her warmth and kindness will be forever cherished by all who were blessed to know her.
