Brinson "Ben" Whitney Carpenter, Jr., 73, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019 at the Mississippi State's Veteran's Home in Oxford, MS. He was born March 5, 1946 to Brinson W. Carpenter and Hattie Stephenson Carpenter. Brinson attended East High School in Memphis. In 1964, he joined the US Navy, proudly serving aboard the USS America and then on the USS Enterprise while off the coast of Vietnam. He was a member of the V36 Fighter Squadron - nicknamed: Hotrodus Supersonicus Roadrunners. Brinson retired in 2011 from The Solae Company after 35 faithful years of service. He leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years , Jody and 2 children; Jennifer Mueller (Steve) and Brinson W. Carpenter III (Jennifer); 4 grandchildren, Ashlyn Mueller, Brinson Cade Carpenter, Mabry Ann Carpenter and Myla Carpenter . He also leaves behind a sister, Elizabeth Fields (Herbie). Brinson is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Parker Carpenter; sisters, Brenda O’Steen and Janet Graham. Big Daddy, as he was lovingly called, also leaves behind a hosts of nieces & nephews. His pallbearers are guys he worked with for many years, Frank Hartman, Roy Shands, Jimmy Evans, Gary Winkler, Lem Rappa, and his son & grandson. Many thanks to hospice - Encompass - for the loving care that he received. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 with a catered reception from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 11:00 am at West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, TN 38125.
