Carolyn Carter Akin, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2023 in Byhalia, MS. Carolyn was born on July 13, 1937 to the Late Orice and Mary Sue Carter in Pontotoc, MS. Carolyn was the #1 basketball player in the state of Mississippi during her high school years. She opened the first coffee shop in Olive Branch called the Measuring Cup. Carolyn was also a member of Longview Heights Baptist Church where she was a choir member. She loved her family and enjoyed being the neighborhood soccer mom. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, and her loving husband, Buford Haley Akin. She leaves behind two children, Alexandria Akin Moye (Jeff) and Haley-Carter Akin (Kelly). Carolyn also leaves behind five grandchildren: Jordan (Emily), Colt, Samuel, Denni Grace, and Cole. Family will receive friends on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. A rotunda service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 10:00 am at West Tennessee Veteran Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd Memphis, TN 38125. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the House of Grace, P.O. Box 272 Southaven, MS 38671.
