Charles Douglas Putts Jr.

Born in December 5th, 1960 in Hinsdale, Illinois, Buzzy was the son of Charles Douglas Putts, Sr., affectionately known as “Buzz” or “Chuck,” and Rosemarie Minor (née Benda). Though life eventually brought him to Olive Branch, Mississippi, where he spent more than 30 years, he never stopped being a Chicago sports fan through and through.

For more than twenty years, Buzzy worked at The Home Depot in Collierville, Tennessee, where he became known as much for his quick wit and perfectly timed sarcasm as he did for his work ethic.

To know Buzzy was to know that he always had an opinion, a joke, or a story—sometimes all three at once. His humor was dry, his timing was impeccable, and if he gave you a hard time, it usually meant he liked you.

He also had an unwavering love for Chicago sports. As a lifelong fan of the Blackhawks, Bears, Cubs, Bulls, and even the White Sox, he considered himself fortunate to have witnessed championships from every major Chicago team during his lifetime. Of course, Buzzy would probably tell you it wasn’t just luck. Every game came with its own carefully orchestrated superstitions. Whether it was sitting in a particular chair, stepping outside when his team had the ball, wearing the “right” shirt, or following some other ritual that only made sense to him, he firmly believed he was doing his part to help bring home another championship.

Buzzy also enjoyed fishing and bowling, especially when he got to do it with his dad, Buzz Sr.

Outside of sports, Buzzy’s greatest companions had four legs and fur. His dogs and cats weren’t simply pets; they were family. He spoiled them shamelessly, talked to them as though they understood every word, and loved them with his whole heart. His home was never short on wagging tails, purring cats, or unconditional love.

Buzzy is survived by his mother Rosemarie Minor, daughters Jennifer Carroll (née Putts) and her husband, Timothy, and Jori Putts; his stepson, Matthew Satterfield; his cherished grandchildren that affectionately referred to him as “Papa” - Natilee Allen (Garreth), Joshua Youngblood, Sophie Satterfield, Timothy Carroll Jr., and Cailee Carroll; two beautiful, great granddaughters Everlee Lanarose and Parker Kate Allen; his brothers, Duane Minor and Matthew Putts; his sisters, Dawn Strom, Andrea Leake and Melanie Pinter; his stepsister, Patty Minor-Prokes; his companion, Carolyn Anderson; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and beloved pets.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Douglas Putts, Sr.; his brother, Brandon Putts; and his stepfather, Jack Minor.

Buzzy lived life on his own terms. He wasn’t interested in pretending to be someone he wasn’t, and those who loved him wouldn’t have wanted him any other way.

His friends and family look forward to the day they can laugh with Buzzy again.

Until then, they’ll honor him the way he’d probably appreciate most: cheer for the Blackhawks, Bears, Cubs, Bulls, and White Sox, keep the lucky game-day rituals alive, love your pets a little extra, and never miss an opportunity to make someone laugh.

Friends and family, as well as friends of family, are encouraged to visit with Buz’s family and share memories on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, Mississippi at 6875 Cockrum Road, Olive Branch, Mississippi 38654.
