

David Rainey Tipton was born august 28, 1938 at Tiptonville in Lake County Tennessee near Reelfoot Lake. He almost died of typhoid fever as a child. He as an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts and also played the bugle for them. He moved from there for a job at Herb Parson's Lake. He served with the National Guard and worked as a truck driver for Camel 66 and Consolidated Freight until retirement. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and storyteller. He's been a loving husband, father, grandfather and a wonderful friend who cared for his neighbors in Memphis. He shared his love for hunting and fishing with his children, grandchildren and many others. He exposed the wonders of Reelfoot lake to many who had never been there, and to everyone else he shared with his many stories about the area.
He passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025 at his son Clayton's home in Mt. Pleasant, MS. He is preceded in death by his parents Hale C. Tipton, Jr and Evelyn Eloise Tipton, brother Hale C Tipton, III, son-in-law Lloyd Jones and grandson Jeremiah James Tipton. He leaves behind his wife of over 45 years, Betty Loftis Tipton; sons Carlton Tipton and Clayton Tipton (Felicia); stepdaughter Ellison Loftis-Jones; grandchildren Joshua Tipton (Alicia), Wesley Tipton (Emily), and Tessa Tipton; Great grandchildren Amber Kidd, Evelynn Tipton and Jeremiah Tipton.
Services will be held Sunday November 2 at Carey Chapel Baptist Church with visitation starting at 1pm, Funeral at 2pm with a burial afterwards at Carey Chapel Cemetery.
