

Donald Ray Brown, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the State Veterans Home in Oxford, Mississippi. Born on October 27, 1932, in Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, he was the son of John and Nana May Brown. Don was a proud graduate of Wynne High School, where he was a member of the 1950 State Champion football team.
He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, receiving several accolades including the Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. Don was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the U.S. Navy Assault Craft Veterans Association.
A dedicated insurance adjuster, Don spent most of his career in the insurance industry before retiring. Outside of work, he had a deep passion for woodworking and duck hunting.
Don will be remembered for his unwavering service to his country, his love for his family, and his devotion to his hobbies.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jackie Mary Brown; his parents, John and Nana May Brown; 6 siblings: Mary Brown, Elvin Brown, Harry Brown, Sue McCulley, Jeanne Webbe, and Earl Brown.
Donald leaves behind his three sons, Mark Brown (Angela Freeman), Kirk Brown (Suzanne), and Chris Brown (Ruth Ann). He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Thomas Brown, Jason Brown (Melissa), Cody Johnson, Sarah Shelley (Josh), Taylor Brown, Kacey Jumper (Colton), and Jessica Brown, and five great grandchildren: Nolan Brown, Addison Brown, Cooper Shelley, Tate Shelley, and Sage Shelley.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 11:00 am with visitation at 10:00 am at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, Ms 38654. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave Memphis, TN.
