

George W. Gardner, of Byhalia, Mississippi, born October 23, 1942, passed away October 15, 2010. “G. W.” was born in Baldwin, Mississippi and moved to Memphis at a young age, where he attended Messick High School. In 1960, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and retired in 1980. G. W. served in Okinawa, California, North Carolina, and Tennessee, eventually retiring in Hawaii. After his retirement from the Marine Corps, he worked civil service with the U. S. Army, and for Dobbs Corporation in San Francisco and Atlanta. Later, G. W. worked as a driver for Roadway, retiring from Roadway in 2009. He enjoyed spending all of his free time with his children, grandchildren, best friend J.R. Redden, and grilling. G. W., also known as “Porky” and “Paw”, is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Julia McDaniel Gardner, his four children, Angela Jane Gardner of Byhalia, Robin Gardner Montgomery and husband Steve Montgomery, of Collierville, son George Michael Gardner, of Byhalia, and Juan Carlos Montgomery, and wife Kena of Fallbrook, California; grandchildren Lauren McGrath, Samantha Montgomery, Christopher and Cheryl Gardner, and Charlie Montgomery; brother Tommy A. Gardner, and sister-in-law Yuni of Reno, Nevada, and half-brother Billy Gardner of South Rockwood, MI.
Preceding him in death is his father and mother, George W. Gardner Sr, and Ella McElhaney, and Sister Dorothy Hagmaier. Private services are to be held for family only.
