James E. Carroll, Jr. born February 2, 1948 passed from this earth on Monday, March 11th. Ever the dedicated husband, loving father and proud grandfather who lit up when talking about his grandchildren and his faith.
He lived life to the fullest, never missing a chance to lift up those around him. He will be remembered as a dedicated Christian, who had a passion for missionary service, especially in support of children throughout Africa, Thailand and Haiti. His support of Teen Challenge, Discipleship Walk, and The Journey fulfilled much of his need to help others know Jesus.
Jim was a dedicated firefighter on the Memphis Fire Department for 28 years, served in the Tennessee Air National Guard for 38 years where he achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and Fire Chief, and finished his career starting up the State of Tennessee fire protection at the Air National Guard base in Memphis, as the first Fire Chief.
In the little time that he was not serving on the fire department or air national guard, Jim enjoyed chasing stripe on the Tennessee river or catching bass in any water hole he could find. When not on the lake, he could be found on the golf course enjoying a round with friends and griping at the ball for not going the direction intended.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother Lois Reno Carroll, father James Edward Carroll, Sr. , and son Paul Edward Carroll. He leaves behind the love of his life, wife Vickie Carroll, sister Jane Stewart (Tommy) , daughter Christy Carroll, son Robert Hill (Peyton), grandchildren Lilly Fox-Pendergrast (Achmed), Shelby Cox, Madison Hill, Gabby Watson, and Liam Hill.
The family will receive friends on Saturday March 16, 2024 beginning at 09:30 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, 7423 Craft Road, Olive Branch, Mississippi. Funeral Services will begin at 11a.m.
Interment will be at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mr. Carroll may be offered to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
