James "Jimmy" Alan Ferrell

December 11, 1964July 24, 2020

James “Jimmy” Alan Ferrell, 55, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Methodist University. Jimmy was born on December 11, 1964 to Sarah and Thomas Ferrell in Memphis, TN. There is not enough time in the day to list all the people impacted by the life of Jimmy Ferrell. To simply say he will be missed is hardly sufficient. To borrow words from a song “there’s a little black spot on the sun today.” Jimmy defined the word “friendship” for many people. Those fortunate enough to be close to him all agree there was no better friend. We all look forward to Heaven a bit more now than we did before. I'll close with the words everyone has heard, “Hey it’s Jimmy Ferrell, I didn’t want nothing—Just calling to check on ya!” He is preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Earnestine Ballard Ferrell and his brother, John Thomas Ferrell. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Graham Ferrell; two daughters, Kristen Willingham (Bradley), Emily Ferrell; his father, Thomas Ferrell (Shirley), a brother, Jerry Ferrell (Susan Ann). He also leaves behind one grandson, Jackson Willingham; 8 nieces and nephews, and 17 great nieces and nephews, who to the very last one, loved “Uncle Jimmy” like no other; Uncle Jimmy loved them all to the utmost and they all knew it. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Orchard Church, 3690 S. Houston Levee Rd. Collierville, TN 38017.

Jimmy was a true servant of God. During my time at The Orchard Jimmy was a worker deluxe. He will be missed!

What a perfect memory of that smiling face. Jim and I have known Jimmy since the 1980s. Met him when my brother married Kelley Holcomb. My entire family loves Jimmy. Our Dad, Charlie, thought the world of him. Jimmy called him Dad since so many did:). He came to our place in May....no hugs due to quarantine, but with that sweet smile. Always there for anyone, no matter what or when. Loved his sweet family and would update me on what was going on. My heart goes out to Nancy, Kristen, Emily and his Ferrell family. We will miss him forever and he added so much to our world and everyone around him. So faithful to his Lord and it shined through. We love you, Jimmy, and will miss you terribly.

One of my greatest memories is when you introduced Nancy to me and Tom. You were so proud and happy. Finally you were dating the right kind of woman and you knew it. You always bring a smile to my face and still do every time that I think of you. The smile has tears now. You will be missed deeply by so many, myself included. Love you Jimmy. Until I see you again!
Love you too Nancy, Kristen and Emily!

I am heartbroken for Jimmy’s family. He was a friend from our first telephone conversation. Our friendship grew stronger as we partnered with his support of the Memphis Barbecue Network. He became a friend to every bbq cook he ever met. Rest easy, my friend, and keep everyone in heaven blessed with Q. I will miss you. Prayers to your family.

Oh my goodness how I wish we didn’t have to live here on earth without you! Knowing you made me want to do more for others. You had the biggest, most beautiful servant heart I’ve ever encountered and I respected you so much.
I’m so selfishly sad you aren’t with us anymore but rejoice that you GOT YOUR PRIZE IN HEAVEN. I literally tear up thinking of the big ole Jimmy smile on your face when you stood before King Jesus and heard the words we all long to hear...”Well done, good and faithful servant!” Miss you friend! Holly Ferrell here, just writing to check in and tell you I love you.
Uncle Jimmy,
Wow how my world won't be the same without you in it. You have impacted me in more ways than I can count. I always remember you being there for momma all our lives in many different situations, good and bad... Growing up around the fast cars, bikes, races and fun was so much fun!!! Watching you build your companies from the ground up, inspired me. When Nancy came into your life, and you found true love and happiness, then a family and gave yourself to God-- it inspired me.... You catered my wedding and to this day, people still talk about my Uncles Food!!!!!
When I opened the restaurant and you were always calling with ideas and checking in on me (like you have all my life) , it made me feel good!! Like I did something right, you stood in that little kitchen of mine and told me how proud you were of me, that was when I felt really good-- What, no advice, no "you should do this, or flavor it this way" just an "Im proud of you kiddo" - wow, I got ya, finally lol ..... You popped in to eat lunch several times and said, "I was just in the neighborhood " 2 hours away, ha you wanted this good food lol..... from my earliest memories to my latest memories, you have always been apart of it all. Im gonna miss your hugs, your calls, your advice and most of all you! Uncle Jimmy- im gonna miss you so much, make sure to give Daddy a hug for me. Love you Always and Forever

I am so heartbroken. I was there the night that the spark ignited between Jimmy and Nancy. I had been friends with Nancy first, but had no idea that included getting introduced to the blessing of a man that was Jimmy Ferrell.
Heaven gained an amazing person and I can't wait to see what an impact he makes up there because I know he made one hell of an impact down here!!!
