Jessie was born, May 3, 1958, in Tulia, Swisher, Texas, to Eugene Morrow McHughes and Alice Rose McHughes (Vanarsdel) but the family resided in Tulsa, Oklahoma most of his life. He and his three sisters would attend Tulsa public schools growing up and enjoyed being around friends and family doing the normal childhood activities. It is not known whether Jessie finished his education, but it didn’t matter in his case.
Jessie was a Jack of all trades. When he wasn’t building a cabin or doing carpentry, you could find him rebuilding an engine, or restoring a car or two. He loved working on vehicles and loved classic cars. He also had a creative side and would create artwork on a few vehicles when given the chance. He was great at what he did and was proud of his work.
In the process of being a Jack of all Trades, he got to travel around and lived in several different locations in his life. But home to him was always where his mama was. He loved his mom and was around her as much as possible.
In his life, Jessie found love several different times, with lovely women. Some of these became his wife and gave him children. He had 6 children in all. 3 boys and 3 girls. Even though he wasn’t around them a lot during their growing up, he still loved his kids. He tried to do what he could for them when he could do it.
Jessie spent a great deal of time to himself but watch out! When it came time to gather as a family for holidays, etc, there in Tulsa, or Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the man was there and present. He loved being around everyone. He loved talking and catching up all while eating a great hot meal cooked by the great cooks of the family. And there are many of those.
All and all, Jessie was a simple man. He liked quiet and was content just sitting and relaxing. He enjoyed quiet evenings just talking with his mama or sitting on the porch and enjoying a cold one with family members or friends. He didn’t need much. He was content just to be.
Jessie was survived by five of his children and their spouses. Jessy Eugene McHughes Jr. of Perry, Ok, Holly Melinda McHughes and husband Todd Payne of Perry, Ok, Alicia Mary Blocker and Husband Paul, of Orlando Ok, Mason Stewart of Tulsa, Ok, and Jaclyn Burmeister of Olive Branch, Mississippi. He had 11 grandchildren (4 boys and 7 girls), and 3 great grandchildren (2 girls &1 boy), several nieces, nephews, and beloved cousins. Also, his girlfriend of 13 years, Tamala Evans.
He was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Robert Lee (Bob) and Rosa Vanarsdel, his mother and father, Eugene Morrow McHughes and Alice Rose Vanarsdel Moya, His 3 sisters, Gail Sharp, Dotty Ann Sharp, Tina Marie Sharp, his son, Paul Lynn McHughes, Aunt Lanell Rois (Vanarsdel), and Cousin Jeremy Shane Brown. May God rest their souls.
