Joyce Ann Teague was joyfully born to her parents Carl and Odell Matthews on April 23, 1945. As a girl, she was a faithful member of Bellevue Baptist Church and active in the Girls Auxiliary. Joyce graduated from Bartlett High School in 1963. She attended Blue Mountain College and the University of Memphis. Joyce graduate Cumae Su Laude from University of Memphis with a B.S. in Biology. She later earned her Masters in Special Education from the University of Alabama. Joyce taught in the Memphis City School public district as well as the public schools in Sheffield, Alabama. Joyce Teague taught and served as the Director of Concord Academy, a private school in Memphis for students with special needs, for 30 years. Joyce Teague was selected in 2005 by The Memphis Woman Magazine as one of the top 50 women who make a difference.
In addition to her service at Concord Academy, she enjoyed being an active member of Longview Heights Baptist Church. Joyce loved gardening; camping and boating with her husband; and caring for her animals.
Joyce is survived by her husband Dr. Thomas Thearon Teague of 53 years, her daughter Katheryn Odell Teague-McLendon, and her son-in-law Cornelius “Neil” Mark McLendon.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 17, 2021 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, Mississippi from 6PM to 8PM. The Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Getwell Road Church in Southaven, Mississippi. Service will start at 11AM with Graveside Ceremony to follow immediately at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh-Lagrange Road in Memphis, Tennessee.
