June was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Michael Martin, her son, Michael Kevin Martin and her brothers, Marvin Dunlap, Jr. and Dr. Charles Dunlap. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Martin Johnson, and son-in-law, Timothy Johnson. She also leaves behind her brother, David Dunlap (Pamela) of Charleston, SC, and her sister, Susan Dunlap of Loveland, CO.
A lifelong advocate for animals, June was known for her tireless work rescuing and adopting strays. She was an animal rights activist long before the term became common, often providing a permanent home in her own backyard for any creature in distress.
June and Mike were married for 68 years before his passing last year. They provided a lifetime of love and devotion to each other and their family. While traveling or spending time at the family home on Snow Lake, it was always filled with laughter, love, and family. When June wasn’t rescuing animals she could be found golfing with her many friends at Audubon Golf Course or finding any reason to be outdoors.
June graduated from Messick High School in 1956 and attended the University of Memphis. Professionally, June served her community as a licensed Physical Therapy Assistant. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Her family is grateful for the wonderful care and love she received from her caregivers, Candice McBride, Jessica Clements, Heather Coker, Marsheena Spann, Sheila Helton, Emily Turner, and the many friends and family who ensured she was able to rest at home. A special appreciation is extended to TJ Leech for his friendship and spiritual presence.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 8455 Germantown Rd. Olive Branch, MS 38654. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 1663 Elvis Presley Blvd. Memphis, TN.
