Leon was born on August 24, 1940 in Pickens County, Alabama to Fred and Teereather Ashmore. He graduated from New Hope High School in Columbus, Mississippi, and went on to become a manager with Fred’s Corporation where he met his wife of 59 years, Cathy Ashmore. They had 2 children, Tina and Kendall. They moved to Meridian, Mississippi where Leon was Vice President and General Manager of Fred’s Franchise Stores, until he retired.
Leon spent his time enjoying the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a Godly man who served as a deacon and leader in their home church of Meridian, Mississippi. He spent many years being involved in Sunday School classes, church ministry, and mission trips.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Teereather Ashmore; sister, Arlene Ashmore; and son, Kendall Ashmore. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Catherine Ashmore; his daughter Tina Hughes (Darrell); his brother Virgil Ashmore (Lois); and his sister Eva Jadzinski (Frank). He also leaves 4 granddaughters: Katie Thornton (Brent), Karlie Lewis (Mark), Mallory Ashmore, Macy Ashmore; and 1 great-grandson, Benton Lewis. Leon also has many family members, nieces and nephews, and two very special caregivers, Star Merriweather and D’Andrea Hines, whom he loved very much.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Broadway Baptist Church, 7400 Getwell Road, Southaven, Mississippi, 38672. Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 9am-11am and graveside prayer will follow the funeral at Forest Hill South Cemetery.
