Marianne K. Day, 76, left her family and friends to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 21, 2021, in Southaven, MS. She was born on December 25, 1944, to Harvard and Patricia Kauffman in California. Marianne was a flight attendant during the Vietnam War. She became pen pals with Larry Day during Larry’s basic training in Biloxi, MS. From basic training in Biloxi, to R & R in Tokyo, to the steps of Larry’s barracks in Vietnam where he asked Marianne to be his wife, they forged a lifelong love and friendship that lasted 51 years. Marianne loved gardening, bluebirds, and all her rescued strays that she gave shelter and a home to. Her passions included spending every spare moment with her grandchildren, dinner and cards with friends, traveling with Larry, and being friends with everyone she met. She was an active participant of the Front Porch Welcoming Committee for the neighborhood. When all of that was not being done, she had her quiet joy keeping up with Larry’s bookkeeping and watching the Hallmark Channel with her beloved sister Dale. Not only did her affection reach the people close by, but it also stretched across the ocean to her exchange students Pablo, Nettie, Sven, Rockie, Toby, Vicki, and Teresia. She is preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Bergman and her grandparents, Lester and Anna Koch. Marianne is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Larry Day; her father Harvard Kauffman; two children, Troy Day (Mary Lee), Leslie Russell (Josh); three sisters, Dale Taylor, Carol White (Donna), and Sharon Wilson (Steven). She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Garrison Russell, Maggie Day, Harlan Day, Ellis Russell, and Simon Russell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter, 909 E F Hale Jr Dr. Senatobia, MS 38668. Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. A short service will be held at the end of visitation on January 30. A private burial will follow at a later date at West Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery.
