Mary Alice Mizell

Hernando - Mrs. Alice J. Mizell, 86, entered her heavenly home on November 1, 2012. She was born in Jackson, MS, August 16, 1926. She graduated from Union University in Jackson, TN, with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Throughout her life, she worked as a secretary, teacher and Director of the Senior Citizens Center in Shelbyville, TN, but her greatest calling was as a minister’s wife who loved to serve the Lord. Mrs. Mizell was a dedicated member of Parkway Baptist Church in Hernando, MS. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Robert H. Mizell, former pastor of Parkway Baptist. She was a devoted, loving mother and grandmother and is survived by her daughter and son-in law, Dr. Carol Peterson and Karl Gary Peterson of Germantown, TN, and her son and daughter-in-law Christopher Robert Mizell and Mary Beth Mizell of Niceville, FL, as well as her grandchildren; Ashley Peterson Dufrene of Cordova, TN, Robert Edward Peterson of Ashford, AL, and Hannah Christianne Mizell of Niceville, FL. She is also preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph E. and Natalie James, her brother, Emerson James, and her sisters Evelyn Carballo and Marjorie Gorday, and is survived by her sister, Frances Green, brother, William James, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, November 8 at Brantley Funeral Home, Olive Branch, MS. The memorial service will be at 9 a.m. Friday, November 9 at Brantley Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Marshall and Rev. Mike Ramage officiating. Interment will be at West Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Road, Germantown, TN, immediately following the memorial service.
