Melvin Taylor at age 72, transitioned on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Methodist Olive Branch Hospital. He was born on July 5,1953 to Andrew and Eleanor Taylor in Chicago, IL. Melvin was devoted to his family, although not the oldest of his siblings, he was their undesignated leader. His leadership attributes extended to his nieces, nephews and friends, always only a phone call away ready to lend a helping hand. He was a regular blood donor, happy to participate in any way to the fight against heart disease and stroke.
Melvin had a natural born talent and skills to renovate and build home projects and repair any electronic household equipment. He was often told he should create a "YouTube" channel to share his skills with the world. He believed in lifelong learning, often picking up books to study new methods and new materials in the construction field.
He was a lover of animals having three dogs, Goldie, Ceasar and Prince, all at the same time. Although he spent the last 25 years in Mississippi, he was still a loyal fan of the Chicago sports teams cheering for the Bulls, the Bears, and the White Sox. Each year in May, he looked forward to his 'boys' fishing trip in Wisconsin with his brothers, nephews, friends and sons. He cherished his loving wife in happy matrimony celebrating decades of anniversaries, traveling, and wonderful memories. He was a great father, grandfather, exceptional husband, loving uncle, brother and friend.
Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor, his father, Andrew, his brothers, Charles, Clifford, and Lawrence, his sisters Janice, Jeanette, and Elizabeth Taylor. He leaves behind his wife Deborah Faye Taylor of 55 years, his sons, Melvin II, and Brandon, his grandson Joshua, his granddaughter Maya, and God daughter Myria Stanley and his God Sister June Stanley-Artley, siblings Earnest, Deborah Ann, and Richard Taylor, and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews. He was laid to rest on November 18, 2025 at the Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch at 1:00 pm in a simple private ceremony with his family. Donations in his honor or memory of a loved one can be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org or call1-800-242-8721.
