

Robert Ross Simpson, 85, of Byhalia, passed away Friday, January 28, 2011, at his home. Mr. Simpson was born in Byhalia, Mississippi to the late Mary Meade and Gordon Harris Simpson. He was the youngest of five children. Ross was a very loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. After graduating from Byhalia High School, he joined the Navy. He received the rank of Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class during World War II. During the Korean War he served in the Air Force Reserves at the Millington Base for two years. Ross worked in the Byhalia Post Office as clerk for 43 years. He was very active and a faithful member of the Byhalia Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. He was Director of Lay Speaking in the Sardis District for several years as well as a Lay Speaker. He was a member of the Masons and served as Master of Masons. He was a Charter Member of the Lions Club and also a member of the Byhalia Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dilma; son, Robert Ross II (Bert), and his wife, Yvonne, of Holly Springs, Mississippi; daughter, Karen Kay Simpson of Cordova, Tennessee; and son, Bradley Carlton, and his wife, Laurin, of Olive Branch, Mississippi. He also leaves five grandsons; Robert Ross III (Robby), Cory Wayne, Bradley Carlton, Jr., William Ryan, and Richard Darren. He is preceded in death by four siblings and two daughters; brothers, Laurens and Russell Simpson, sisters, Katie Mae Tucker, and Elzine Gee, daughter, Deborah Ellen, and infant daughter, Sandra Fay. He will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon today, Sunday, January 30, with funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., all at Byhalia Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Byhalia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Byhalia Methodist Church, P.O. Box 6, Byhalia, Mississippi 38611, earmarked for family Enrichment center.
