Roy Arnold Rutledge, 90, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett, AR. He was born on December 7, 1930 to his late parents John Clinton Rutledge and Mary Earl Rutledge in Collierville, TN. He served his country in the United States Navy from
1949 to 1953. Roy was retired from the Memphis Sanitation Department where he took great pride in his work and was a favorite among his managers. He loved to read his bible and to listen to the Saint Louis Cardinals on his radio. He also loved to talk to and sing “You Are My Sunshine” every night on the phone with his very special cousin Jana Hooker Casey. He was loved by all who knew him and affectionately called Papaw by the nursing home and hospital staff. He was a very kind, loving, generous and selfless man and loved his family and the Lord Jesus with all his heart. His greatest desire in his twilight years was to reach his 90th birthday and then he said he was ready to go to heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his 3 brothers, William, Dan and Max Rutledge and his wife Cora Rutledge. He is survived by his son Randy Rutledge and wife Diane of Hamburg, AR; Two Granddaughters Leigh Rice and husband Cole of Hamburg, AR and Brooke Scogin and husband Jay of Crossett, AR; and two great granddaughters Sophie and Ava Scogin of Crossett, AR. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 14th at 10:00 am with visitation beginning at 9:00 am at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum Street, Olive Branch, MS 38654, with Rev Randy Rutledge officiating. Burial will be at Bethlehem Cemetery at 5349 E Holmes Road, Memphis, TN immediately following the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Bill Rutledge, Mike Rutledge, Larry Verzak, Bill Taylor, Jay Scogin, Danny Rutledge and Honorary Pallbearers Cole Rice , Joe Rutledge, and Larry Greer.
