Ruby Charlene Black was born in Pontotoc County, Mississippi on December 7th, 1930. She was married to her husband, Troy Durrell Black, on February 17th, 1945. Mrs. Black worked hard all her life. She had a way with flowers and all things that grow. She ran a floral shop for a time, and her green thumb was admired (and envied) by all. In the 80’s and 90’s, she owned and operated T&R Grocery with her husband in Byhalia, MS, their home of 42 years. Her grandchildren are blessed with fond memories of Pac-Man arcade games and sliding open the heavy freezer door to grab Push-Up popsicles. Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her parents, Earl D and Louella Dodson; granddaughter, Regina Kaye Tutor; daughter-in-law, Joyce Ann Black; and her three brothers, Marvin, Maurice, and EJ Dodson. Mrs. Black is survived by her beloved husband of 73 years, Troy D. Black; her children, Durrell Black, Winnie and Myrl Church, Debbye and Bob Henderson, and Don Black and Stewart Strain; her grandchildren, David, Rita, and Tony Church, Trista Walker, and Lauren Henderson Starkweather and Morgan Henderson; great-grandchildren, Alesha and Jonathan Thomas, Ashley and Corey Tutor, Mallory Crawford, Dylan and Tye Black, Kagan and Hunter Church; great-great-grandchildren, Alia, Brittany, and Angel Thomas, and Kyleigh, Madison, and Kinsley Tutor. Mrs. Black was a member of the Olive Branch Church of Christ on E. Sandridge Road. Mrs. Black was a beacon of love and light to everyone lucky enough to know her. She desired one thing in this life: to be loved. She cared deeply for others and gave freely and without reservation. She was kind. She loved animals and they loved her. She found great joy in making her family and friends feel special, and her love for gift-giving and celebrating birthdays and holidays is a trait passed down to her children and grandchildren. She is loved. Family will receive friends on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with the services to immediately follow at 2:00 pm at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. Pallbearers; Tony Church, David Church, Ethan Crawford, Dylan Black, Tye Black and Stewart Strain. Internment at Byhalia Cemetery in Byhalia, MS.
