Shirley Jean Savage Morgan, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 19, 2026. She was the sixth of seven children born to Raymond Savage and Eula Scott Savage. Her father was a farmer, so she was raised to help with the crops.
Shirley attended Hernando High School. She worked at the telephone company for a time before marrying Barry Morgan in 1956. She later worked for Chromcraft in Senatobia, where she lived until 1969. After moving to Southaven, Shirley worked in the office at Horn Lake High School. She later became an aide at Hope Sullivan Elementary.
Shirley’s passion for young children continued to grow, and she ultimately became a kindergarten and pre-K teacher at Colonial Hills Church and later at Greenbrook Baptist Church. Shirley loved Jesus, teaching children, and a good cup of coffee. She taught countless children to read and write and to recite a Bible verse for each letter of the alphabet.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, James Barry Morgan; her daughter, Carla E. Champion (John); parents, Raymond and Eula Savage; 5 siblings: Jack Savage (Della), William Savage (Barbara), Helen Savage Hurt (Bubber), Evelyn Savage Hale (Emmett), and Bettye Savage Davis (Marcus).
She is survived by her children, Susan M. Guerieri (Mike Conway), Jason Morgan (Kerri), and her brother, Heyward Savage (Faye). Shirley also leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Trey Guerieri, Andrew Guerieri, Brittney Mabry, Kelli Little, Hayley Norquist, Hayden Morgan, Paige Williams, Chance Brewer, Cody Brewer, and 16 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at Hernando Baptist Church, 11 E Center St. Hernando, MS. Burial will follow at Love Cemetery.
