Walter Lawrence Reed

Born on November 7, 1948, in Natchez, Mississippi, Walter was the only child of Walter Joseph Reed and Edith Whitt Reed.

After graduating from Cathedral School, Walter married Edith Wood, then proudly served in the United States Navy. He went on to a career at Britton & Koontz Bank, retiring as Senior Vice President & Chief Operations Officer. Walter married Bonnie Logan in 1990, creating the blended family he loved dearly. After retiring, Walter and Bonnie moved to Olive Branch.

Walter was an accomplished drummer, playing in many bands throughout the years in Natchez and Olive Branch. Aviation was Walter’s other great passion that he pursued over the years. He was a parishioner of Assumption Parish then later a member of First Baptist Church of Natchez. In Olive Branch, he was an active member of Brookside Baptist Church, playing in the Praise Band among other key roles.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Bonnie Reed; former wife Edith Harrison; four children: Penny Collins (Joe), Andy Reed (Jodi), Lisa Erhardt (Michael), John Logan (Katie); 10 grandchildren: Amber, Elliot, Savanna, Ali Hart, Logan, Emily, Mia, JC, Wesley, and Laura K; a special niece, Julie Floyd, as well as other extended family.

Those who knew Walter will remember his loving commitment to family, distain for tardiness in himself or anyone riding with him, and his obsession with his pug puppies. He will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday July 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Brookside Baptist Church, 4993 MS-302 East, Olive Branch, MS 38654.

Burial will follow at Natchez National Cemetery at a later date.
