Elaine Carp Wolff, 92, passed away on May 13, 2019 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Born in St. Louis to the late Mary White Carp and Bernard Carp in 1927, Elaine is survived by her husband of 71 years, William Wolff, age 94.

Elaine was educated at Monticello College before attending Washington University in St. Louis. She married William Wolff, also of St. Louis, in 1948, a few weeks shy of her 21st birthday. Together, they raised two children, Gary Carp Wolff, 69, of St. Louis and the late John Merill Wolff (Patti).

After her son John was born with renal disease in 1954, Elaine learned how to administer dialysis and became a tireless fundraiser for the National Kidney Foundation. When her son Gary was diagnosed with Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes in 1959, she turned her considerable energy to fundraising and advocating for ADA diabetes research, too.

Known for her indomitable spirit, Elaine was an active member of St. Louis’ Jewish community, and lifelong member of Congregation B’nai Amoona. The non-profit St. Andrew’s Resources for Seniors celebrated her as one of their Ageless Remarkable St. Louisans in 2010, noting her extensive volunteer work and active lifestyle. Elaine exercised nearly daily into her 90s.

She is survived by her husband William, her son Gary (Sherry and the late Marsha), her grandchildren Sarah Wolff (Aaron Rosenzweig), Samuel Todd Wolff (Kimberly), Samantha Wolff, and Mary Wolff, and Alexander Chalfant (Elizabeth) and Linden (Kramer) Nelson and her great-grandchildren John Wolff and Vivienne Wolff and Sloan Chalfant, Graham Chalfant, and Knox Nelson.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Congregation B’nai Amonna, 324 S. Mason Road. Interment follows at B’nai Amoona Cemetery, 930 North and South Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ADA Diabetes Research Foundation, the National Kidney Foundation, Congregation B’nai Amoona, or the Cancer Support Community of St. Louis.
