James Joseph Mills

December 12, 1962April 8, 2019

On April 8, 2019, the world lost a true gem of a man. James Joseph Mills was a beloved son, a caring brother, a loyal friend, a doting and loving husband, and a dedicated father of 3. Though taken from us too soon, for 56 years Jim shared his light and love with anyone who had the joy of coming into his life.

Jim is survived by his wife, Michelle Hirsch Mills, daughters Madeleine, Abigail, and Isabelle, father James Niland Mills (Sheila), siblings Robert Mills (Nikki), Jennifer Boyer (G.P.), Kathleen Lovett (Brian), Meredith Arns (K.C.) and Jeremy Moss, Lindsay Blase (Chris) and Nicola Moss, sister and brother-in-law Maya Shmoel (Avi) and Joe Hirsch (Joanne) and many nieces and nephews. Jim is predeceased by his mother, Patricia Louise Mills.

Jim's amazing qualities were amplified in his family life. He made every one of his family and friends feel as if they were the most special person in the world.

Michelle and Girls:

I am so sorry for your loss, I know how great a Dad and Husband JJ has been, I saw it at every Lacrosse game and function we shared. JJ is a truly great man, and I thought so highly of him it's tough to put it into words. He was always so respectful of our personal and business relationship, he was kind and I admired him for being a man of honesty and integrity. I thank him for allowing us to partner on so many projects together and for being a great friend and support system when I needed that support a few years back. He was generous to a fault and I will miss seeing his smiling face and listening to his many great stories. Madeline, Abigail, and Isabelle ..... I know you know how proud of you that he is and always will be. Michelle he will be missed dearly, but like you said he was a light and a joy to everyone he came into contact with and he will be with you everyday, I am sure of that.

I was Jim’s college roommate his second year at Drake and my first. He was so generous and big hearted. What you most want in a roommate is someone who helps you to fit in at the new place. A person who is gracious, covers for your awkwardness, your inevitable social mistakes, and introduces you to all his friends. Looking back, I am deeply moved by his kindness and acceptance of me. He made an undeniably big imprint on my life and I am so sorry to hear of his departure. There are many good and hilarious stories to be told of our time together. At some point I will communicate a number of these memorable tales to his family.

To the entire Mills family...Kristen and I extend our deepest condolences. We are absolutely stunned and saddened. Although we hadn't talked in a while, Jim was one of those guys that always made you feel better about everything after being around him. The many memories that I and others shared with Jimmy will endure. R.I.P, Millsy!
