OBITUARY

Linda Barton

February 12, 1940August 11, 2019

Linda S. Barton died on Sunday, August 11th 2019, at the age of 79. She was the beloved mother of Jason Barton and Caitlin Barton-Landfield, mother-in-law of Matthew Landfield, grandmother of Benjamin, and aunt of many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Louis and Evelyn Satz, and by her sister and brother, Marilyn Smith and Robert Satz. Linda was born on February 12, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri. She received her BA in English from Washington University in 1962. Linda worked first as an editor at McGraw Hill, then in her own business, and later as a writer at Edward Jones. She loved books and taught her children and grandson a love of reading. Linda was a talented classical pianist at an early age. She was University City High School’s orchestra pianist, and while she considered studying piano at the Juilliard School, she chose to stay in St. Louis, attend college, and raise a family (with her ex-husband, Albert Barton). Linda was a loving mother and grandmother and a wonderful friend. She hosted many dinners and Passover seders, and was an admired cook, baker, and avid knitter. She grew a Japanese maple tree and daylilies in her beloved, hummingbird-frequented backyard garden. She had a strong sense of style and an affinity for designer shoes, and she wore them well!

Linda was a pioneer in many ways, making her home in the Central West End, and helping to start Central Reform Congregation (CRC), a synagogue in the city of St. Louis. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 13th, 2019 at CRC at 5020 Waterman Blvd. in St. Louis, with a visitation at 10:30am and a funeral service at 11am. A private family ceremony will follow the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda’s memory may be made to: Central Reform Congregation https://www.centralreform.org/give/ or The Yiddish Book Center https://www.yiddishbookcenter.org/.

Special thanks to Dr. Monica Muir and the medical team at Mercy Hospital, and a very special thank you to Rabbi Susan Talve. May Linda’s memory be a blessing and may her family be comforted among the Mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

I met Linda when she moved into The Sheridan where my Dad lived. I was glad to meet her-she was friendly, smart and interesting.

My sympathy to all who loved her.

I met Linda at Edward Jones, where we both worked. It turned out her daughter Caitlin and my daughter Emily were good friends who had gone to the same schools. I found Linda to be a quirky, spontaneous person and didn't quite know what would come next from her. She was very bright and creative. I think we both felt a little sidelined where we worked because we were left leaning in a right leaning business. I visited her home only once and thought it fit her perfectly. She raised a wonderful daughter. I am sorry to read of Linda's death. With respect and affection, Bill Buege
