Rosalind Neuman died, at the age of 80, on Sept 17, 2018 from Alzheimer’s disease. Roz worked as a statistical geneticist in the psychiatry department at the Washington University Medical School, where she studied genetic diseases. She was a proud graduate of University City High School. She also attended Washington University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in 1960 and later received a PhD in mathematics in 1980. In the intervening years, she married the love of her life, Sanford Neuman, and had four children, Jeff, Bennett, Larry and Shula. Roz’s passion for her family and her work was only matched by her devotion to the Jewish community. She served on the boards of the Jewish Community Relations Council; American Jewish Committee; the Jewish Family and Children’s Services; Bais Abe Synagogue and on the Hillel boards both locally, at Washington University, and nationally. Roz was passionate about music of all kinds, she played guitar and sang. She was an impressive athlete. She took up jogging in her mid-30s and became an avid runner and marathoner winner, qualifying for the Boston Marathon in her 40s. She loved playing tennis and took several cycling trips domestically and abroad with her husband of 58 years.
Roz is survived by her husband, Sanford; her sons Jeff (Cynthia); Bennett (Rick); Larry (Qing); and Shula, as well as her three grandsons of whom she was so proud: Julian, Gabriel, and Maurice Neuman, and her brothers Mel and Dan Farris.
