He attended Zion Lutheran grade school on 41st and Q St. He then attended Omaha South High School and graduated in 1970. Allen graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and received his teaching certificate, and went on to teach at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, where he taught for 40 years. He was a demanding teacher, but there was no doubt that his students could read, write, and do math, and above all have a deep lasting love and faith in Jesus. His passion for young people also lead him to organize a basketball program at Zion Lutheran Church.
