

She was born March 17, 1931 in Frederick, Colorado to Ray and Lura (Grisham) Laney. She had two brothers, Leonard and Marvin, and five sisters, Charlene, Lillian, Loretta, Janet, and Eleanor. The family moved to Pennsylvania, then traveled to Oregon and back to Black Lick, Pennsylvania, while her father worked as a miner and various jobs during the Depression. Alma graduated at the top of her class from Blairsville High School, Blairsville, PA in 1950. She joined the Women’s Army Corps in 1950, reaching the rank of Sgt. before her discharge in 1953. In September,1952 she was assigned to Yokohama, Japan, working as a cryptographer. There she met Donald Henry Wulf of Eagle, Nebraska, who worked in the same office. They became engaged, and after being discharged, they got married on December 6, 1953 in Walton, Nebraska.
They had a happy marriage lasting 36 years, until Donald’s death in 1989. Their first home was in Humboldt, NE, then they moved to Ralston, Papillion, and Fremont, NE while Donald worked for the Soil Conservation Service. Alma held several bookkeeping and secretarial jobs, mostly in the public schools. They were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Papillion, and Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont. In 1957, their first child, Donna Lee was born, and in 1959,twins David Ray and Daniel Jay were born. During their growing-up years, the family took many vacation trips, and moved from Papillion to Fremont. All three children graduated from Fremont High School and from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Donna married Steve Hyde in 1980, they have two sons, Derek and Craig, and Derek and his wife Kestrel have a son, Connor. David married Vicki Curtis in 1986, and have three sons, Andrew, Ryan, and Grant. Daniel married Judith Trackwell in 1998.
After Donald’s death, Alma moved to Omaha, and became a member of Lutheran Church of the Master. She enjoyed traveling and went on many trips with tour groups and to Elderhostels. She liked to shop, and go to lunch with her dear friend and sister-in-law Dorothy Heavey. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In her later years, she suffered from memory loss, but never lost her warm, loving spirit.
Alma Wulf, of Omaha, passed away on Sunday, September 29 at Brookstone Village. She was born March 17, 1931 in Frederick, Colorado to Ray and Lura (Grisham) Laney, and graduated from High School in Blairsville, PA in 1950. She served in the Women’s Army Corps from 1950 to 1953. She married Donald Henry Wulf of Eagle, Nebraska on December 6, 1953 in Walton, Nebraska. Her greatest joys in life were her 36-year marriage and her three children. Alma was preceded in death by her husband in 1989; also by her parents, and sisters Charlene, Lillian, and Eleanor. She is survived by her daughter Donna Hyde and husband Steven Hyde of Alexandria, VA; twin sons David R. Wulf and wife Vicki of Omaha, and Daniel J. Wulf and wife Judith of Windsor, CO; grandsons Derek Hyde, Craig Hyde, Andrew Wulf, Ryan Wulf, Grant Wulf; great-grandson Connor Hyde; brothers Leonard Laney and Marvin Laney; sisters Loretta Geason and Janet Strong.
Funeral service will be Monday, Oct. 7 at 11am at Crosby Burket Swanson Golden Funeral Home, 11902 W. Center Road, Omaha, NE, with burial at 2:00 at Eagle, Nebraska Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 6, 2-4pm at the funeral home.
