Clyde Allen, age 83, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026. He will be remembered for his easygoing nature, positive outlook, and delightful sense of humor. He brought warmth and laughter to those around him and was loved by family, friends, and the communities he called home.
Clyde Allen was born on February 1, 1943, to Francis Louise Layman Allen and Lester John Allen. An only child, he grew up to develop a deep appreciation for the outdoors, a love of nature, and an enduring interest in trees, plants, and gardening.
He earned an undergraduate degree in Landscape Architecture, reflecting his appreciation for the natural world. Throughout his life, Clyde enjoyed tennis, camping, fishing, and spending time outdoors.
Clyde served in the Nebraska Army National Guard from 1966 to 1974 while building his 40-year career as a project manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. During his eight years of National Guard service, he completed basic training and Officer Candidate School, followed by officer training. He served as an infantry platoon leader and later as a company commander with Company C, 134th Battalion, 67th Infantry Brigade, Nebraska Army National Guard. He completed his military service with the rank of Captain.
Clyde retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 2005 after four decades of dedicated service. He talked fondly of the friendships he met there and was proud of the exciting projects he worked on that improved lives and protected our country.
Clyde married Pamela J. Dillman on July 23, 1977. Together, they shared a long and wonderful life, welcoming their son, Scott, on April 13, 1984, and later their grandson, Tatum, on February 6, 2007. Family was at the heart of Clyde’s life, and he treasured the relationships and memories they built together.
He shared his adventurous spirit and love of nature with his son, Scott, through their many high-adventure outings with the Boy Scouts of America, where Clyde served as a group leader. These experiences created lasting memories for them both.
As Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Body dementia progressed, Clyde never lost his sense of humor or positive outlook. As his memory changed, he began proposing to Pam again and again—first weekly, then daily. Even when Parkinson’s affected his ability to speak, he continued finding ways to tell his family how much he loved them. For Pam, this was an extension of their love story, a testament to a bond that endured even when memories and words became difficult.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Louise Layman Allen, who passed away in 1997, and Lester John Allen, who passed away in 1981.
He remained close to his extended family, including sister-in-law Linda Dillman; niece Lindsey Werner, her husband Brian, and their son Blake; nephew Bradley Dillman and his daughter Skylar Paroda Dillman.
Clyde and Pam also cherished their relationships with cousins Gerry Schneiderwind Brown (Gary), Barry Schneiderwind, Kym Henke Tedesco (Paul), Doug Henke (Melinda), Sally Farquhar and her children, Merrianne, Michael, and Christina. Clyde also held a special place in his heart for the Farquhar family dog, Alana.
Clyde and Pam lived at Arboretum Village for six years, where Clyde was well liked for his friendly nature, laidback positive outlook, and wonderful sense of humor.
They also treasured their vacation home at Table Rock Lake. Clyde developed many dear friendships in the condominium community there, adding to the many meaningful connections he made throughout his life.
Clyde will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, dedicated professional, veteran, outdoor enthusiast, and loyal friend. His optimism, humor, and love for those around him shaped a life rich in meaningful relationships and treasured memories.
He will be deeply missed by Pam, Scott, Tatum, his extended family, and the many friends whose lives he touched. His legacy lives on in the adventures he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the love he continued to express until the end. Above all, Clyde leaves behind a beautiful love story—one that Pam will carry with her always.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Arboretum Village, 8141 Farnam Dr., Omaha, Nebraska 68114, on November 10, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
