Dean D. "Pete" Bull

Dean Donald Bull was born on July 15, 1931 in Omaha Ne to Henry C and Maria (Koch) Bull. He grew up on the family farm outside of Elkhorn. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn, Ne. He attended country school where as a first grader he was the only one in the class and the teacher couldn’t keep him busy enough so after one month in first grade he moved to second grade with his sister Joanne and stayed in her class from then on. He graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1947 at age 15. After graduation he attended the University of Nebraska on a Regents Scholarship, where he worked at the student union and played a lot of ping pong to earn his spending money. After college he worked various jobs before beginning at Walnut Grove 4x4 in 1958 where he stayed until his retirement. He was a member of the Saunders County Livestock Association for over 35 years.

Pete married Betty Witt in 1951 here at Zion Lutheran Church and from that union 4 children were born, Mike, Susie, Theresa and Donald. They divorced. Pete married Jeannette Scheer in 1975 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church and from that union one child was born, Deborah. They divorced. Pete spent many of his later years with his companion Lois Jensen who passed away in 2007.

Pete was very proud to be a member of the Masonic Lodge, serving as Worshipful Master in 1974. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner.

One of Pete’s many loves was his cooking. In his later years he began catering for parties and weddings. He cooked many a meal at his favorite stop Cohen Kelly’s. He will best be remembered for his barbeque meats with his secret seasonings.

Pete passed away from respiratory disease on March 15 at 12:58am, which was closing time for years and so he decided it was time to go home. He will be greatly missed.

Dean Donald “Pete” Bull is preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert and Curtis, sister Shirley Bull Rosacker and grandson Jacob Bull. He is survived by children: Michael (Joan) Bull, Pamela Susie Bull (Jim Regan), Theresa Elder, Donald (Jeanna) Bull and Deborah (Chad) Storlie. His grandchildren: Sandy Kay Bull ( Ken) Christensen, Heather Cohrs (Nikki), Sara Cohrs, Stephanie Cohrs (Josh) Ratfield, Brian (Kelly) Bull, Katie Elder (Anthony) Bates, Molly Bull, Aaron, Connor and Tanner Storlie.. His great grandchildren: Nicholas, Tyler, Cameron and Emily Christensen, Theodore and Tish Stutheit, Tyler, Anthony and Zach Ratfield. Sisters Elinor Shanahan and Lois Joanne Vorrath. Many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
