Omaha. Dean was born in McCammon, ID. He graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in chemistry and received his doctorate in biochemistry from Iowa State University. In 1969 Dean began working at Creighton University. He taught biochemistry and did research on scorpion venom. He retired from teaching in 1989 but continued to do research until 2002. Dean married Frances Elaine Murdock in Salt Lake City on Aug. 23, 1945, and they were blessed with 5 children: Sharon Shull, Nola Jean Barzee, Barbara, Lauritzen, David Watt, and Stuart Watt. They have 27 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
