Age 64. Preceded into death by her mother Dorothy VanCaster. Survived by her husband Mitch John Sr., son Mitch John Jr. (Samantha), daughter Breanne John (Adam), her father Dean VanCaster, brother Dean VanCaster, and sister Dori Harshbarger (Roger) as well as many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Diana and Mitch were married for 43 years and while they joked with one another that it was “Cheaper to keep her” or that she “Didn’t want to train another one”, you could feel the love that they had built throughout their lives together.
Diana was very proud of what both her kids have accomplished not only in their professional lives, but also in their personal lives. She enjoyed hearing about all of the new places Mitch and Samantha had traveled and the different ideas he had for the next beer that would be brewed at his work. Diana was very excited to hear about how Breanne’s work within the Omaha Public Schools helped children find a love for learning and loved helping Breanne plan her wedding to Adam this coming Summer.
While Diana did not have human grandchildren, she was incredibly happy to have her grand-puppies who referred to her as MeMaw. Monroe, Leo, and Brutus will greatly miss her spoiling them with treats, but PawPaw has doubled down on treating them when he is around. Her sweet fur-son Duke is also missing her greatly, but helping PawPaw navigate their new normal.
Diana was very involved in her faith at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church throughout the years by participating in youth mission trips, attending services regularly, and teaching Sunday School.
To honor Diana's memory, her family has asked that any memorials be sent to the following organizations in her name: the Nebraska Humane Society, JDRF, the Kountze Food Pantry, or the Crazy Horse Memorial. Additionally, memorials can be sent in her name to the Josie Harper Hospice House as her family has shared that they have a deep gratitude for everything that they did for their family during Diana's time there.
A Celebration of Life for Diana will take place Saturday, August 30th at 11:30 am at Westlawn-Hillcrest.
