Edythe B. McLeod

Edythe McLeod, age 92, passed away peacefully at home in Omaha. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert Owen McLeod, who was a pastor at Dundee Presbyterian Church. Edythe and Bob met in high school at Blackduck, MN, her hometown and place of birth, and married in 1943 in Princeton, NJ, while he was in seminary. The couple moved to Nebraska in 1954, and Edythe was a devoted pastor’s wife to Presbyterian congregations in Central City, Plattsmouth, Bellevue (Avery), St. Paul, and Omaha (Dundee). Edythe attended Bemidji State Teacher’s College and graduated from Peru State College in 1966. She taught in a one-room school near Nashwauk, MN, and in elementary schools in Central City, Plattsmouth, and Omaha, NE. During retirement, always the teacher, she enjoyed teaching beadcraft and knitting to other seniors. In 1997 and 2008, Edythe published two children’s Christmas books, which were illustrated by Ralston artist Debra J. Groesser. Edythe and Bob loved traveling with the Holiday Ramblers, and she was an avid birder and gardener. Edythe was a member of P.E.O. Chapter BX; and a member of Dundee Presbyterian Church.

Edythe was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; by her parents John Brooks and Alice (Maurice) Brooks; and by her nine siblings.

Edythe is survived by her children: son James (Janice) McLeod of Springfield, MO; daughters Joye McLeod (husband James Wood) of Springfield, NE; Kathryn (Gregory) Ohlsen of Utica, NE; and Ruth (Charles) Lucas of Colleyville, TX; and by grandchildren Carol McLeod, Erin (McLeod) Fulton, John McLeod, Susan McLeod, Eric Ohlsen, Lauren Ohlsen, Alissa (Lucas) Bobek, Rebecca (Lucas) Ferguson, Benjamin Lucas, Christian Wood, Spencer Wood, and Stacey Wood; and by twelve great-grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Visitation Wednesday from 4:00-6:00PM at Crosby Colonial Chapel. Memorial Service Thursday at 2:00PM at Dundee Presbyterian Church, 5312 Underwood Ave. Private Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
