Preceded by her beloved husband of 58 years, A.Q. Wolf, in 2006. Elaine was born and raised on a farm near Elba, Nebraska. She moved to Omaha, in 1947 and worked for a while as an elevator operator and assistant at St. Joe Hospital. In 1947 she met and eventually married A.Q. Wolf, who worked as a public defender and then as Municipal and Douglas County judge.
Starting in 1948 Elaine worked for the Northwestern Bell and Telephone Company as a long distance telephone switchboard operator. This was during the era when operators made cable switching by hand and supervisors moved around on roller skates. She moved into sales in the 1960’s and eventually retired from the phone company in 1977. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Elaine enjoyed baseball and was an avid Cubs fan all her life. She also liked going to the Dick Walters travelogues at the Joslyn Museum as well as participating in European tours Mr. Walters sponsored. Her other interests were Opera, reading, going for long walks and chocolate.
