Gilbert built a life the way he did everything else—by showing up, working hard, and finding a way forward. He owned First Stop Bar, Carter's Cafe, and Carter's Roofing, and through those ventures he proved, day after day, what steady effort and grit can create.
He also knew that life wasn’t meant to be all work and no stories. Gilbert loved hunting, fishing, gambling, and being out in nature, and he had a special talent for turning ordinary moments into something worth laughing about. At family gatherings—especially the ones he hosted—he was often the spark in the room, the one with a joke ready and a way of making people feel like they belonged. His sense of humor, paired with a devoted heart, made time with him memorable in the best ways.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Carter; brothers and sister, and his children, Keith Carter and Lori Naill.
He is survived by his children, Letha Smith (Craig), Curtis Carter (Kim), Kevin Carter, 7 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and other family and friends.
