

Gordon was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Arthur Virgil and Mabel Henrietta Newhouse on November 14, 1933. He graduated from Technical High School (Tech High) in 1951, lettering in baseball and swimming. After graduation, he worked for Union Pacific.
In 1953, he joined the United States Air Force, first serving as a navigator. He went on to become a B-47 bomber pilot, attaining the rank of captain.
Gordon married Karen Jean Schneidewind on October 19, 1958.Through 1967, they were stationed in Wichita and Topeka, Kansas and Lincoln, Nebraska, with the last three years in High Wycombe, England. Road trips to castles on the weekends were a favorite pastime, along with hot tea, scones and antiquing.
Upon returning to civilian life, they settled in Omaha, Nebraska, and Gordon worked for Union Pacific once again, retiring in 1998. Gordon was a lifelong Husker fan who also went on quite a few fishing trips in his time.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jennifer, brother Norman, and his wife Karen . He is survived by his children, Kristin, John and Valerie (Scott Hill) and grandchildren.
A visitation for Gordon will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center Street, Omaha, Nebraska. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home. The service will be followed by burial at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, 2300 South 78th Street, Omaha, Nebraska. A luncheon at First Christian Church, 6630 Dodge Street, Omaha, Nebraska, will follow the burial.
