James Branch

It is with our deepest love we announce the passing of James Branch, a United States Army Veteran, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, at the age of 81, in Omaha, Nebraska.

James was born on March 22, 1945, to Erie Dean Ledrson and Willie Henry Branch Sr.. He built a life centered on service to his Country, a deep love for his family, and friendships.

He graduated from Saginaw High School where he broke many records and won many trophies running track and playing basketball.

He served in the United States Army; he was proud of the discipline, friendships, and purpose he found during those years.

After his service, he built a career working for and retiring from the United States Post Office.

James Branch accepted Christ at 17 years of age at Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

He enjoyed traveling, watching the New York Knicks play, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs.

He is remembered for his love of sports, Western shows, and 1960's and 70's music.

He leaves to cherish precious memories his wife, Ava Branch; three daughters and one son, Janie Marie Branch, Debra Ann Johnson, Jacqueline Denise Brown and Dustin Hiner; four stepchildren, Curtis Williams, Dione Williams, Monique Williams and Chatauqua Williams; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one sister and one brother, Erie Dean Gaston of Saginaw, Ml and James Watkins Jr. of Syracuse, NY; many nieces and nephews; one daughter-in-law and two sons-in-law, Elva Hiner of Omaha, NE,; Amos Johnson III of Killeen, TX and Glen Brown of San Antonio, TX; and many close relatives and friends, including his devoted friends, Paul Jude (aka PK) Vadovski of Omaha, NE; Clyde Harvey of Omaha, NE; Beryl Topps of Kearney, NE; George Washington of Kearney, NE; and L. B. and Rose Brown of Kearney, NE.

James Branch was preceded in death by his mother, Erie Dean Jones (Ledrson); father, Rev. Willie Henry Branch Sr.; two brothers and three sisters, Willie Branch Jr. (Tyrone Davis), Leroy Branch; Willa Mae Marcellus, Salindra Macafee, and Sharon Watkins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Cornerstone Church of God of Prophecy, 3824 R St, Omaha, Nebraska 68107, on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 am.
