Jim passed away April 5, 2019. He was born in Bancroft, NE in 1936 to the late Lawrene and Hazel (Castor) Gatzemeyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Fran; brothers, Loren, Pat, Dennis and Francis; and sister, Lavon. He is survived by his brother, Gary; sisters, Myra and DeLoise; sister-in-laws, Janiece, Erma and Nancy; his many nephews and nieces; and close friends. Jim’s great grandparents emigrated from Canada and were Nebraska homesteaders in 1869 Burt County. After his 1954 High School graduation he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He met his late wife (friend and true love), Fran Stewart, in Omaha at a 1964 La Salle social function and they were married two years later at St. Cecillia Cathedral. With Fran’s support, he attended University of Arizona, earning an Engineering Degree in 1974. After University, Mr. Gatzemeyer had the opportunity to join OPPD as a power station engineer at Ft. Calhoun Station. In 1977 he transfered to the Nebraska City Station for its construction, startup and operation. He enjoyed all power station challenges and achievements and always said he had the ‘best job around’. He retired from OPPD in 2004. He was a lifelong resident of the Omaha area.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of your choice. VISITATION: at the Mortuary Wednesday from 12-2pm, with FUNERAL SERVICE Wednesday at 2pm. INTERMENT: Westlawn Hillcrest Cemetery.
