She is survived by her older sisters Linda and husband Fred Ramey, Janice and husband Bill Sammons, younger brother Rick and wife Karen Bornhoft, Jim and wife Joni Bornhoft and several nieces and nephews and host of friends, neighbors and former colleagues.
She was born on March 27, 1951, in Omaha, NE and grew up in Omaha. She was the middle child of her four siblings. She graduated from Omaha Technical High School on June 3rd, 1969. She went on to work for the phone company as a switchboard operator where she met her husband. Joyce and Ken were married on May 25, 1974, in Omaha, NE. They bought their first home in Ralston where they raised their two children, Stacey and Shannon. Mom was the best host, and their home was often filled with more than just the four of them.
Later, they moved out west to Millard and she began to re-establish herself in the new community. She would work nights at Immanuel CHI Hospital until the opening of CHI Lakeside Hospital. Then she went back to school attending the College of St. Mary becoming a certified medical coder and finished her career of 20 years with CHI Health Lakeside. Even after moving out west, she continued to attend West Hills Church and was very involved in ministries like baking goods for those who lost a loved one or helping young readers at Westgate Elementary School.
Joyce and Ken travelled a lot over the years. They almost made it to all 50 states including Alaska, and Hawaii. In the beginning, the only way they travelled was by driving but got better at taking to the skies and eventually on a cruise ship. As luck would have it, their younger daughter settled in Florida, so they found themselves going south for Christmas and the New Year.
Joyce had a love for baking that left many asking for more. She was an avid reader whether hard copy or you could find her pool side with her kindle she loved a good book. She also loved her newspaper and would even find mistakes that their editors never found before the final print, because that’s how meticulous she was. She really wanted the newspaper for one thing and that was the daily crossword puzzle that she would complete every day. Her one weakness was chocolate but don’t worry mom now that you are in Heaven I am sure there is an endless supply that is keeping your heart happy.
A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at 11:00 am on May 23, 2026, at West Hills Church, 3015 S 82nd Ave, Omaha, Nebraska 68124. Friends and family may join via live stream at https://boxcast.tv/view/joyce-blatney-celebration-of-life-service-u3mssiaxcjn5yp0u1eod
